Winter is coming to New Mexico, and now is the perfect time to winter-proof your home!

Cold weather shouldn’t cause any trouble if you follow our tips and tricks to prevent issues this winter.

As we move into the colder months here in New Mexico, it’s important to winter-proof your home. Below are some tips to save you money and prevent issues this winter!

  • Before the freezing temperatures kick in, the most important thing to do is shut off the irrigation system (located at the timer in your garage) and the gate valve in your front yard. This will prevent the lines from bursting during the winter, leaving you with a mess in the spring.
  • Get the ladder and reverse those ceiling fans! You want your fans to help circulate the warm air so your heater can work smarter, not harder.
  • On the subject of heaters, remember to change the air filters in your home so your furnace can run more efficiently during the change over from air conditioning to heating.
  • Chimney cleaning is a thing of the past with your Twilight Home! Our gas fireplaces give you the beauty of a wood burning fireplace without the hassle or hazards.
  • Clean those gutters!
  • Stock up on winter supplies, like kitty litter for ice, and a snow shovel!
  • The best thing to use on ice is kitty litter, since ice melt and salt can damage the concrete.
