Building Better From the Ground Up: Twilight Homes Introduces Post-Tension Foundations

At Twilight Homes, we believe that building a home means constantly looking for ways to do it better.
That means paying attention not only to the finishes, floorplans, and features our homeowners see every day, but also to the things they may never see—like what is happening beneath their home.
This week, we reached an exciting milestone at our Quivira community in Albuquerque, New Mexico: Twilight Homes poured its first-ever post-tension foundation.
And this is just the beginning.

What Is a Post-Tension Foundation?

A post-tension foundation is a type of concrete slab foundation that uses high-strength steel tendons within the concrete.

After the concrete reaches the required strength, the tendons are tensioned, creating compression within the slab. This helps the foundation resist bending and can improve its overall stiffness and performance.
Post-tensioned slabs can also help control cracking and are particularly useful in areas where soil movement can present challenges.
In simple terms, post-tensioning gives the foundation another level of engineered strength and performance.
And for us, that's important.

Why Is Twilight Homes Introducing Post-Tension Foundations?

Because we don't want to simply follow the homebuilding industry.
We want to help move it forward.
At Twilight Homes, we are constantly looking for ways to improve the homes we build and provide our homeowners with quality products and building practices that can provide lasting value.
Our first post-tension home at Quivira represents an important step toward that goal.
Yesterday, our sales team and superintendents gathered at the community for hands-on training and an up-close look at the post-tension system before the concrete was poured.
Then today, we watched it all come together as the concrete was poured, and our first Twilight post-tension foundation began taking shape.
It's an exciting milestone for our team—and an exciting step for the future of Twilight Homes!

What Does This Mean for Homeowners?

Your home's foundation is one of the most important parts of the entire structure.
Although you may never see it once your home is complete, everything else is built on top of it.
Post-tensioned slabs can provide increased stiffness and help control cracking associated with soil movement.
For our homeowners, introducing this technology is part of our commitment to continually look for ways to build better.
We want to give our homeowners confidence not only in the home they can see, but also in the quality and engineering that goes into the home they can't see.

Starting in Quivira. Expanding Across New Mexico.

Our Quivira home is the first Twilight Homes project to use a post-tension foundation, but our vision goes far beyond this one home.
We are looking toward making post-tension foundations a standard feature across Twilight communities in the near future.
That means what we're introducing today in Quivira could soon become part of the standard Twilight building experience in communities throughout New Mexico.
We believe New Mexico homeowners deserve access to innovative building practices and quality products that help us build homes for the future.
And we want Twilight Homes to be the builder that is willing to explore what's next.

Building Better Starts From the Ground Up

The walls will eventually go up. The roof will go on. The finishes will be added. And soon, a family will walk through the front door and call this house home.
But before any of that happens, it starts with the foundation.
Our first post-tension foundation is more than just another step in the construction process. It's a reflection of how we approach building homes at Twilight.
We're always looking for ways to build better.
Because when we say “Dreams Begin at Twilight,” we believe those dreams deserve to begin with a strong foundation.
